Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center: A Journey Through Time and Culture in Tuguegarao
Your Journey Through Cagayan’s Past
Just steps away on Rizal Street in Centro 10, we have a true historical gem. This isn’t just a museum; it’s a living testament to Cagayan’s rich story.
The Cagayan Museum building has a fascinating past. It once served as the Spanish-era Casa Tribunal of Tuguegarao and even as the Old Cagayan Provincial Jail. Imagine the stories these walls could tell! Today, it stands as a proud guardian of our region’s heritage.
The museum’s existence is thanks to the foresight of former Governor Teresa J. Dupaya, who established it in 1973. Her vision was simple: to showcase and preserve the cultural treasures of Cagayan. And that’s exactly what we do here, through a captivating collection of artifacts, documents, and exhibits.
From Ancient Times to Recent Discoveries
Prepare to be amazed as we explore our diverse collections. You’ll see prehistoric fossils and tools unearthed from various archaeological sites right here in Cagayan and Kalinga. These incredible finds offer a window into the lives and customs of our earliest inhabitants. As you move through the halls, you’ll discover a wide range of artifacts that highlight the region’s historical and cultural significance, from indigenous art to relics that whisper tales of bygone eras.
A New Home for History
The museum itself has a bit of history! It was originally located at the Cagayan Capitol grounds before moving to this more accessible spot on Rizal Street in 2018, under the administration of Governor Manuel N. Mamba. This move made it even easier for everyone to connect with our shared past.
This museum is truly a must-visit for anyone eager to understand the heart and soul of Cagayan. It’s a place where history comes alive, and our cultural treasures are proudly displayed.
